Raising teens can be challenging

Has family life become a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride since your child moved into adolescence?  Is your relationship with your teenager not how you’d like it to be?  Do you struggle to know how to respond when your teen is emotional, as your efforts to help them seem to lead to even more emotional volatility?

Raising Teens is a free six-week course that teaches parents a range of approaches and strategies to help build a strong relationship with their teen, respond better to daily challenges and increase family cooperation.  Raising teens is based on emotion coaching, a way of parenting that focuses on emotions.  Adolescence is a particularly emotional time and it is often emotion that is the driving force behind some of the more difficult, challenging and risky behaviours teenagers engage in.

Raising Teens is run by 4families (Relationships Australia), who have been operating in the Warren Blackwood area since October 2015.  As well as offering workshops such as Raising Teens, 4families also provides individual support to families where children or teens are struggling.  Parents can find out about individual family support by phoning 6164 0600.

In term one 4families will be running the workshop Raising Teens on Thursday evenings, 6.30pm  – 8.30pm, at the Pemberton District High School.  The course is free and runs for six weeks, starting on 2 March and running until the last week of term one.  4families will be running Raising Teens in Bridgetown in term two.  In order to get the most out of the course we ask that parents commit to attending all six sessions from the outset, and one or both parents are welcome to attend.   Please phone Melissa on 0438 520 733 for more information or to book your place as places are limited.
