  • Two-stage $462,178 technical equipment upgrade
  • Supports broader performance schedule for local audiences
  • Funded through the Liberal National Government's Royalties for Regions Creative Regions program
Mandurah Performing Arts Centre audiences can look forward to a broader program of local and touring performances after a $462,178 technical equipment upgrade for the venue.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the centre was implementing the upgrade in two stages with grants provided through the Liberal National Government's $24 million Royalties for Regions Creative Regions program.

"The program's Regional Venues Improvement Fund (RVIF) aims to ensure important local venues such as the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre are well equipped to accommodate regional performing arts groups," Mr Day said.

"Having high-quality sound and lighting is an important factor in attracting an even more diverse range of performing arts groups to visit Mandurah."

The work will include:
  • upgrading the theatre lighting and dimmer systems, wireless microphone system, audiovisual system, and sound system
  • the provision of a motorised lighting grid for the venue's blackbox theatre, the Fishtrap
  • front and back of house improvements for the Boardwalk and Fishtrap theatres
  • lighting and audiovisual upgrades in the dance studio and public spaces.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the RVIF was one of five schemes under Creative Regions, which aimed to improve infrastructure and establish opportunities for the development of arts and culture.

"The program complements local government contributions, enabling upgrades that would otherwise not be possible," Mr Redman said.

"The Mandurah Performing Arts Centre upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-2017."
