  • First 90-day red tape reduction project off to a flying start
  • Opportunities identified in a number of areas
  • Streamlining processes to encourage investment and jobs
The Liberal National Government's new red tape 'flying squad' has already identified areas to streamline approvals and provide greater certainty for aquaculture businesses.

Finance Minister Bill Marmion said the first 90-day regulatory mapping project had wasted no time in identifying opportunities in application processes, licencing arrangements, reporting requirements and tenure security.

"The State Government is seeking to strike the right balance of policies, rules and regulations to ensure the aquaculture industry continues to flourish, attract investment and generate jobs," Mr Marmion said.

"Consultation meetings have been held throughout a number of regional areas as well as Perth.  Findings from those meetings have informed the mapping project to date, with industry now providing further feedback."

Fisheries Minister Joe Francis said the project was a great example of government collaborating with industry to simplify and streamline processes without compromising high biosecurity standards.

"The Department of Fisheries is working hard with the Department of Finance, industry and other government agencies to make practical changes," Mr Francis said.

"We need a purposeful regulatory environment to ensure we continue to build a clean, safe and sustainable aquaculture industry."

Both Ministers are encouraging industry stakeholders to continue to share their ideas to improve regulation via the 90-day aquaculture survey on the Department of Finance website.  The survey will close August 31, 2016.
