  • First international adaptation of WA's Act-Belong-Commit campaign
  • Campaign to be delivered nationwide in Denmark
Western Australia's Act-Belong-Commit mental health promotion campaign will be delivered in Denmark for a trial period of two years.

Mental Health Minister Andrea Mitchell said the Liberal National Government was proud to have been a contributor to the development and ongoing implementation of the Act-Belong-Commit campaign over the past eight years.

"Independent evaluation of the program in WA has shown it to be effective and its adaption for use in Denmark, as well as further interest from a number of other countries, reinforces its value," Ms Mitchell said.

"The Liberal National Government continues to support the WA Act-Belong-Commit campaign, which encourages the community to build and maintain better mental health.

"We know that being active, having a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose in life all contribute to happiness and good mental health."

Other countries to express interest in using the campaign include the United States of America, England, Canada, Japan, Fiji, Faroe Islands and Mongolia.

In 2015-16, the WA Mental Health Commission funded Curtin University with $542,605 to deliver Act-Belong-Commit, with funding continuing in 2016-17.

Health Minister John Day said Healthway had also contributed to the campaign, with funding of $628,638 in 2015-16 and $859,762 committed for 2016-17.

"Healthway has sponsored 80 projects worth more than $1.8 million to promote Act-Belong-Commit in WA," Mr Day said.

"Thanks to this State Government support, 75 per cent of West Australians are now aware of this important positive mental health message."

The Act-Belong-Commit campaign is implemented through health services, local governments, schools, workplaces and not-for-profit groups, and now has more than 210 partners across Australia.
