  • Upgrade complete to Geraldton Regional Water Supply Scheme
  • Improving water supply for Dongara and Port Denison residents
The Liberal National Government has completed a $7.2 million project to replace the pipeline supplying water to the Mid-West towns of Dongara and Port Denison.

Water Minister Mia Davies said the upgrade, completed by the Water Corporation, would improve the capacity and reliability of water supply to both towns.

"The new main is double the size of the existing pipeline, which was built about 50 years ago," Ms Davies said.

"The upgrades to the water supply pipeline will increase the delivery capacity to 5.7 million litres per day, which is the equivalent of two and a half Olympic-sized swimming pools.

"This will help meet the community's water needs in peak demand periods and cater for future growth in the area."

Construction on the 13.6 kilometre new pipeline started in March 2016 along existing road reserves, from the Allanooka Reservoir on Water Supply Road, and to the water tanks on Melaleuca Road in Dongara.

The Minister said the project was delivered on schedule and four local contractors were employed to complete the work.

"The Water Corporation also worked closely with residents living near the new pipeline to minimise disruption during the construction period," she said.

"I want to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this project was taking place."

Fact File
  • The Geraldton Regional Water Supply Scheme serves more than 1,900 properties in Dongara and Port Denison
  • Dongara and Port Denison has a resident population of about 3,700, which increases during holiday periods due to its popularity as a tourist destination
