  • Community organisations encouraged to share in nearly $80,000
  • Grants celebrate young West Australians during National Youth Week
Nearly $80,000 in grants are now available to local governments and community sector organisations for 2017 National Youth Week WA celebrations.

Youth Minister Tony Simpson said the Liberal National Government was pleased to be able to provide up to $1,000 for activities and events acknowledging the positive contributions of young people.

"I encourage young West Australians and community organisations to start thinking creatively in preparation for the festivities next year," Mr Simpson said.

"National Youth Week is the biggest celebration on the Australian youth calendar.  It is significant because it enables young people to take the lead in community projects from the planning stages to delivery.

"The week is a showcase for the talents and creativity of young people, while also providing opportunities for them to raise important issues and explore possible solutions."

The Minister said the grants program enabled organisations from across the State to work in partnership with local young people to deliver the week's events.

"From fitness expos, youth mentoring workshops to art exhibitions and music festivals, more than 100 events took place throughout the State this year.  Many of them were supported by the grants program," he said.

"By partnering with young people, organisations have the opportunity to harness new ideas, energy and innovative thinking to shape celebrations in new and exciting ways."

To be eligible, events must take place during National Youth Week WA from March 31, 2017 to April 9, 2017.

Fact File
  • The grants program is jointly funded by the State Government and the Australian Government's Department of Education and Training
  • National Youth Week WA is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA in partnership with the Department of Local Government and Communities
  • Applications close at 4pm, October 20, 2016
