  • $20,000 in grants available for regional and remote Children's Week events
  • Children's Week runs from October 22 to 30, 2016
Local governments and community groups in regional and remote Western Australia are invited to apply for grants of up to $2,000 to celebrate Children's Week.

Community Services Minister Tony Simpson today announced that applications were open for grants to support local events and activities from October 22 to 30, 2016.

"Children's Week is an opportunity for the community to engage in a variety of activities that facilitate, support and encourage children and their families to celebrate, play and discover together," Mr Simpson said.

"As a father, I understand the importance of providing activities and events as a way for families to increase their connection with their community, particularly in regional and remote areas.

"The Liberal National Government is pleased to continue its support for Meerilinga Young Children's Foundation to deliver Children's Week celebrations in WA, including $20,000 for these grants."

The Minister said Meerilinga had a strong track record of promoting positive childhoods and providing support to parents and had been convening Children's Week in WA since 1985.

"Children's Week is a special time to celebrate the rights of children to enjoy their childhood and I encourage regional and remote organisations to start thinking about exciting events where children have an opportunity to learn through engaging activities," he said.
