  • Jenny Davis receives top honour at WA Seniors Awards
  • Awards marks the start of Seniors Week from November 6 to 13, 2016
A 67-year-old actress and director has been announced as the 2016 Juniper Champion for Seniors at the WA Seniors Awards ceremony this morning.

Mrs Jenny Davis received the commendation in recognition of her ongoing work with Agelink Theatre, which she established in 1993. The organisation provides intergenerational and interactive theatre productions based on the oral histories and recollections of seniors.

Speaking at the ceremony, Seniors and Volunteering Minister Paul Miles said the Liberal National Government was pleased to support the awards which recognised and celebrated older West Australians.

"Jenny's innovative work combining the arts and supporting seniors, which spans more than two decades, has been tireless and this award is a fitting thank you to her," Mr Miles said.

"The Agelink Theatre provides seniors with a wonderful way of sharing their lives, stories and memories.

"The organisation ensures that seniors, as valued members of WA's communities, aren't overlooked or forgotten and enables them to contribute in a meaningful way."

The other category winners are:
  • Community Award - Mariette Cowley
  • Arts and Culture Award - Jenny Davis
  • Business Award - Garden City AMP (Capital Shopping Centres), Booragoon
  • Group or Organisation Award - Grandparents Rearing Grandchildren
  • Local Government Award - City of Wanneroo
  • Deborah Kirwan Media Award - Claire Tyrell and Nic Ellis (The West Australian).
"All 15 finalists nominated in these important awards are winners. They have made and continue to make a tremendous contribution to WA's communities and I commend them," the Minister said.
