Upgrades to Geraldton's wastewater system

 Wastewater infrastructure in Geraldton continues to receive a face-lift, with the Water Corporation completing a project in Spalding in May and set to start work on an upgrade to the town's wastewater treatment plant later this year.

During a recent visit to Geraldton, Water Minister Mia Davies acknowledged the completion of work in May to replace 3.2 kilometres of wastewater main in Spalding.

"This has improved the reliability of the wastewater system and caters for growth," she said.

"Thank you to the local community and road users for their patience and understanding while the Water Corporation undertook this essential work."

Looking forward, the Liberal National Government - through the Water Corporation - will invest about $3.5 million to upgrade the Geraldton wastewater treatment plant located off Place Road, to cater for future growth.

"The upgrade will involve construction of four new infiltration ponds and refurbishment of the existing ponds," Ms Davies said.

"The plant treats about two million litres of wastewater each day, which will increase to 3.5 million litres once the upgrade is complete."

The upgrade is planned to begin in late 2016 and take about 12 months to complete.
