  • 79 units to provide affordable dwellings to growing Midland workforce
  • Homes within walking distance of Midland train station and new hospital
  • $25 million project on Housing Authority land with development partner Psaros
  • At least 80 jobs supported through construction
The Liberal National Government has received planning approval to deliver 79 apartments within the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority's (MRA) Midland Workshops precinct.

Located near Midland train station, the Woodbridge project will address the high demand for more housing choice and diversity in the growing area.

Housing Minister Brendon Grylls said the five-storey development, to be built by Psaros, was exciting news for people looking to buy their own home on the doorstep of the vibrant Midland town centre.

"This infill development is close to a range of new amenities, employment opportunities and transport links, and is a short walk from the new Midland hospital and the proposed Curtin Medical School," Mr Grylls said.

The Woodbridge development will offer a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and is expected to take 18 months to complete, with initial earthworks expected to start in 2017.

The development embraces the State Government's Affordable Housing Strategy and infill housing targets, with a focus on high-quality, affordable, medium to higher density housing developments in areas where these options are not readily available.

The Housing Authority acquired the land from the MRA for $1.36 million.

Planning Minister Donna Faragher said facilitating the delivery of affordable housing was vital in planning for the future growth of Midland.

"It is essential the range of affordable accommodation options made available to the community grow alongside the new amenities and services being provided in Midland," Mrs Faragher said.

"This development will complement the range of projects underway."

Pre-sales are expected to commence in early 2017.

Fact File
  • The development site is Lot 602 (15) Yelverton Drive, Woodbridge
  • The $25 million project is located within the MRA's redevelopment precinct for Midland and it will support at least 80 jobs during construction
