  • Turning of the sod on stage two of oil, gas and engineering training centre
  • Facility is internationally recognised as one of the world's best training centres
  • Stage two will focus on mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineering
The Liberal National Government has turned the first sod of soil on the $12 million second stage of its internationally recognised oil and gas training facility.

Deputy Premier and Training and Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey said South Metropolitan TAFE's Australian Centre for Energy Process Training (ACEPT) facility had forged an enviable international reputation.

"The ACEPT is regarded as Australia's leading provider of process operations training for the Australian oil and gas, mineral and chemical processing industries," Ms Harvey said.

"The facility is an industry-standard simulation and process operations plant which replicates the oil and gas processing plants across Australia, ensuring our students are 100 per cent job ready the moment they graduate."

The Deputy Premier said stage 2 additions to the campus would provide state-of-the-art facilities for mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineering, as well as an enhanced training capability in the process operations sector.

"The development of Stage 2 of the ACEPT campus will include computer labs, mechatronics and metallurgy laboratories, workshops and machine rooms, as well as two oil and gas processing simulator rooms," she said.

"This is testament to the State Government's commitment to provide the latest facilities and technology which not only benefits students, but industry which takes on these graduates."

Ms Harvey said in a constantly evolving resources sector, it was essential that South Metropolitan TAFE remained at the forefront of industry requirements.

"This facility will help ensure ACEPT, TAFE and Western Australia preserve its coveted position as Australia's leader in training for the resources sector," she said.

"This project again highlights the Liberal National Government's commitment to ensure training equips students with the best skills to get a job in the industries driving our economy."
