Shire of Manjimup, Home and Community Care (MHCC), and Manjimup Community Resource Centre would like to invite you to be involved in an exciting community initiative:
The Manjimup Repair Café
Toss it? No Way! Funded by the Department for Communities and hosted by MHCC. The Manjimup Repair Café is a free meeting place which is all about repairing things. Any community member is encouraged to bring their broken items from home to be repaired by handy, practical or skilled community volunteers. Specifically the Repair Café aims to engage socially isolated individuals, particularly seniors and those living with dementia. Even if attendees have nothing to repair, they can still enjoy homemade refreshments, lend a hand with a repair job and even acquire new skills. |
In addition the Manjimup Repair Café aims to mitigate in a small way the volume of things that are being thrown away and ending up in landfill; it will teach people to see their possessions in a new light and once again to appreciate their value and kindle their enthusiasm for a more sustainable society.
The Manjimup Repair Café is a pilot project which we believe will provide an innovative way to implement the positive, age and dementia friendly desired outcomes of, but not limited to; a more inclusive community; a community which promotes the contribution of older people and people living with dementia; improved feelings of self-esteem in individuals and; alleviation of isolation and loneliness in vulnerable and marginalised people.
In order for the pilot of the Manjimup Repair Café to be successful and to determine its long term viability, we need to establish a volunteer team.
Therefore: We invite interested individuals to support, promote or participate in this community initiative in any way you can.
